Counselling With Me...
I am a counsellor because I have made mistakes and know very well how it feels to be judged by others, and to live to the expectations of others. I have experienced grief, loss, trauma and regret. I believe that these experiences, alongside years of training enable me to be able to help you, and show you empathy and understanding without judgement.
I have also worked hard to study and train though, and have a first class BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am fully insured, have a portable enhanced DBS and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I work closely to their ethical framework. I have counselled a diverse range of clients, many with complex issues, and have also been a lecturer in counselling.
Counselling with me is very much a journey of exploration. It involves looking for the root of a problem as once we get to this, and we understand where it comes from, it helps us know how to deal with it, and more importantly how to prevent it coming back in the future. Counselling can be tough, and painful, but I take care to manage this as gently as possible. Although it can feel uncomfortable, it should always feel productive. I like counselling to be realistic and sometimes it can even be funny.
In a warm, positive and professional way, I will work in line with your values, beliefs and view of the world. I work in a practical and realistic way, where you should always feel in control of what we talk about. Sometimes I will challenge you gently but I will manage your thoughts and feelings safely and ethically. Counselling can feel like an unburdening, freedom from the past and hope for the future. Mostly it will involve you talking to me. I will often ask questions, and am looking for clues as to what may be going on for you. Ultimately you are the expert on you so we will talk about whatever you want to talk about. At the end of a session I will say 'Would you like to book again, and if so when?' This can be in a day, month or year, whenever you feel you would like to.
